ABOUT DANA
Dana is Denmark's largest research vessel and DTU Aqua's primary vessel.
Survey
The research vessel Dana is on an international research cruise, Atlantic-Arctic Ocean Change.
From 17 May to 3 June 2025, the research vessel Dana is in East Greenland to study the exchange of freshwater and carbon between the east Greenland shelf and western Greenland Sea, and between surface and deep waters.
Data from the cruise will contribute to our understanding of the effects of climate change on global cycles of water, carbon, and energy (heat) and how these influence life on Earth. The subpolar and polar North Atlantic is a globally significant region with respect to these three cycles.
The cruise collects synoptic measurements of freshwater and carbon distribution and fluxes and performs incubations to determine organic matter degradation, grazing and nitrogen fixation.
In addition, sediment cores are collected to derive reconstructions of conditions during the Holocene geological period.
Furthermore, biooptical measurements will be conducted to improve the usability of measurements of the ocean from satellites, and autonomous platforms will be deployed to extend data coverage to the entire ice-free period.

The chartering of Dana is funded by Danish Centre for Marine Research
