Section for Fish and Shellfish Diseases
About the section
The Section for Fish and Shellfish Diseases conducts research on the prevention and control of diseases in fish, mussels and oysters as well as crustaceans.
The section is the national reference laboratory for fish and shellfish diseases and carries out diagnostics and monitoring for notifiable diseases in Denmark. The section is also EU reference laboratory for fish diseases and for crustacean diseases, as well as WOAH reference laboratory for the fish disease Egtvedsyge (viral haemorrhagic septicemia or VHS). WOAH is the World Organization of Animal Health.
The section provides advice to national and European authorities and offers teaching to master's and PhD students as well as courses and workshops in, among other things, diagnostics and laboratory techniques.
The section carries out research and development of methods for disease detection and characterization of diseases and pathogens, vaccines for use in aquaculture as well as risk assessments.
The section has a modern laboratory and experimental facilities and can carry out diagnostics and infection trials for most known diseases in aquaculture.
